Rabiul Husain
Art Critic, Poet & Architect

Syed Iqbal, a restless, soul of creative diversity, an ardent writer of short stories' impulses, very thoughtfully concentrated himself to the arena of line, form and color, has at last been able to bestow upon an identity, very interestingly of an artist. He is conscious and tries to understand everything in his own way. He ultimately wants to create the feelings with color and line, and shares it with others as a true artist. He works in a reputed ad-firm as an artist and constantly has engaged himself in illustrating book-covers also sometimes in creating cartoons. He is a widely traveled person and stayed abroad for a long time. So, he happens to know the world and as a result his artistic pursuit has rightly involved him to create something to satisfy his deep thirst. He, so, ultimately tries to depict his experiences and feelings in color and line.

Syed Iqbal's media of expression is not through drawings but also through colors. He has expressed himself more easily through color than drawings. Compared to the use of color his drawings may seem to be not so bright but this gives the characteristics of the artist where he proves to be bold and assertive enough in his freedom of expression.

This is the first solo exhibition of Syed Iqbal. So, his interest has interest has been shown in various subjects as well as in the media of expressions. Sometimes he uses figurative subjects like clothed woman covering her face, religion-biased Mullahs in the process of turning minor boys forcibly into a demagogue, love-hate relationship between man and woman etc. There are also subjects which are directly expressed and then again by symbolic connotation in case of various social and political dissimilarities and injustices prevail in the queer behavior of Man and Nature. It proves his consciousness and conviction towards the society to which he belongs. He reacts with the man and the society and ultimately wants an environment where there is no exploiting and ill-motivation.

My best wishes to Syed Iqbal, do please keep it up for you and others!
